How to Buy Firearms Online

You must be 18 years of age or older to purchase rifles or shotguns and 21 years of age or older to purchase handguns. It is the responsibility of the customer to verify that the firearm being purchased from Shooting Sports Outlet, Inc. is in compliance with the laws and regulations of your state, county, or city. Before ordering a firearm from our website, please make sure that you are legally able to own the firearm in your area and that you do indeed want to own the firearm. California residents MUST check to ensure that any firearms that they wish to purchase are on the CA Approved DOJ List. Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns before placing a firearm order.

Purchasing firearms online is easy with these simple steps!

  1. Identify the firearm that you want to purchase. All firearm product listings will have Shipping Options available to select on the product page. Select your Shipping Options prior to adding the firearm to your shopping cart. The shipping options that you select will apply the indicated cost for those options directly to the cost of the firearm and the selected options will be visible in the shopping cart view. Firearm orders must be placed separately from all other merchandise.
  2. Use our FFL Locator Tool to find a licensed FFL Dealer in your local area to accept receipt of the firearm and perform the transfer to you as the purchaser. This can be your local pawn shop, gun shop, sporting goods store, or any other location that holds a current Federal Firearms License (FFL). The FFL dealers noted as "Preferred Dealer" in the FFL Locator Tool already have a current copy of their FFL on file with Shooting Sports Outlet, Inc. Please make note of the selected FFL dealer's shipping and contact information as this information will be needed again during the checkout process. It is the customer's responsibility to contact the local FFL dealer to make the firearm transfer arrangements.
  3. Complete the order of your firearm on our website using our secure online shopping cart. There will be three options available for selecting a FFL Dealer to receive the purchased firearm during the checkout process. The "FFL Dealer Options" section of the checkout page is where you will make your selection. The three options available are listed below.
Option #1 – Select FFL Dealer from list. Use the drop down menu to select a STATE and CITY and/or ZIP Code. Click the "Show FFL Dealer(s)" button. Select the FFL Dealer that you would like to use from the drop down list.
Option #2 - Local Pick-up by Appointment Only (Shooting Sports Outlet - Peyton Colorado). Select this option if you would like to complete the transfer of the purchased firearm at our local office. Please use the Contact Us link or send us an email at (customerservice@shootingsportsoutlet.com) to arrange an appointment time to come by and complete the required background check and transfer process. Additional fees may apply (CBI Background Check Fee - Currently $10.00).
Option #3 - I will provide my own FFL Dealer information following the purchase via email or fax. Select this option if you are unsure which FFL Dealer you like to use at the time of the purchase. The instructions for submitting FFL Dealer information to Shooting Sports Outlet, Inc. can be found below in steps 5 thru 7.
  4. An order confirmation with an order number will be e-mailed to you upon submission of the order. If you don't receive your order confirmation via email within 24 Hours, then please use the Contact Us link or send us an email at (customerservice@shootingsportsoutlet.com). Sometimes our emails are blocked by spam filters.
  5. (Optional) Download and complete the FFL Transfer Form located on our website. The FFL Transfer Form helps us to associate the signed file copy of the FFL received from your local FFL Dealer to the order that was placed on our website. The completed FFL Transfer Form can be returned to Shooting Sports Outlet either by the customer or by the FFL Dealer when they send the signed file copy of their FFL License.
  6. Contact the selected FFL dealer and let them know that you would like them to handle the transfer of a firearm from Shooting Sports Outlet, Inc. This transaction and any associated transfer fees are between you and your local FFL dealer. Most FFL dealers will charge a small fee to handle the firearm transfer for you.
  7. Have the selected FFL dealer email or fax a signed file copy of their FFL License along with the (Optional) completed FFL Transfer Form to Shooting Sports Outlet via one of the following options. Email: customerservice@shootingsportsoutlet.com or Fax: (877) 834-1322
  8. After we have received a signed file copy of dealer's FFL License and your order processing has been completed. We will ship your firearm to the selected FFL dealer. You will receive a tracking number via e-mail when the firearm ships. By law, all handguns must be shipped via air service. Long guns can be shipped via ground or air service.
  9. Once the local FFL dealer receives your firearm, they will have you complete any necessary paperwork and perform any required background checks. After you pass your background check then you can pick up your firearm!
